    Smoking Treatment Options
Not many people need a real addiction treatment plan for quitting smoking. There are quite many methods to stop this addiction by yourself if you're a smoker. However, these methods can successfully be applied, with a few differences of course, in battle with other substance addictions, and may take you to a complete drug rehab.

So, what are the most common smoking treatment options?

The most harsh one is called Cold Turkey and it implies the abrupt interruption of smoking without any substitute. If you're endowed with a very strong willpower, this is the most indicated process to quit this addiction. Cost is minimal (even zero), but the used-to-be smoker must be very determined because the craving is quite strong, especially if the brand of cigarettes that the person in cause used to smoke had a high concentration of nicotine.

The second alternative to quitting cigarettes is called Nicotine Fading. This method consists in reducing the nicotine consumption gradually by 30, 60, 90 percent and eventually for good. This process should not take more than one month. It's also an inexpensive alternative to quit smoking.

Consuming Nicotine Gum can also be a good way to quit smoking, but chewing this gum is also damaging and you shouldn't follow this treatment for long. It's not indicated to persons with heart disease and definitely not recommended for use during pregnancy. Along with multiple side effects of chewing Nicotine Gum, this method is also a bit costly. An ex-smoker may pull out of their pocket more than a few couple of hundreds for this gum over a period of a few months.

There are also other alternatives like the Nicotine Patch or medicamentous treatments. Zyban is one of the common prescribed medicine alternatives for quitting nicotine. It relieves the subject from the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. However, just like most medicine it also has side effects like insomnia, agitation, dry mouth etc.

The best methods that you should choose from are the first 3 I mentioned above. Also, don't think that it's a shame to join an addiction treatment program to quit smoking. Who cares if there are people that have lost half of their lives and health as drug users? An addiction is an addiction. So, if you really want to quit smoking, alcohol or any drug, substance abuse treatment is always an excellent alternative.
